Kebun Baru CC SCEC held its 'SOCIAL DANCE NITE 2001 - A FATHER'S DAY CELEBRATION' on Saturday, 18th June 2011 at Broadway @ AMK, Ang Mo Kio CC (Aircon.). Guest of Honour was Mr. Von Lee, Kebun Baru CCC Vice-Chairman. The event started at 6.00p.m. with 1 1/2 hours of non-stop Line Dancing. Social and Ballroom Dancing commenced from 7.30p.m. with Raymond Lee on the keyboard. A segment of Latin Dances between 8.30p.m. to 9.00p.m. for those who did the Pacada Tango, Pasa Doble, Samba, Salsa, etc. As the hall is small we could only accommodate 26 tables (1 VIP Table) with no much dancing space. The show ended at about 10.15p.m. preceded by a LUCKY DRAW.

Community Functional Screening Programme

A Community Functional Screening Programme by Health Promotion Board and supported by Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee would be held on Sunday, 26th June 2011 at Kebun Baru CC. Time: 8.00a.m. to 12 noon. Ticket at $5.00 per pax. This screening exercise is for seniors aged 60 years and above.
Ageing is usually associated with a decline in functional ability, such as poor vision, difficulty in hearing and decreased leg strength and/or balance. These conditions can affect a senior's well-being and quality of life.
Health Promotion Board's Community Functional Screening Programme (CFSP) helps seniors detect early signs of functional decline. Early detection of functional decline, followed with appropriate treatment and lifestyle changes will enable our seniors to remain independent and active.
Screening is a series of simple tests and questionaires administered by healthcare professionals in the following areas -
PHYSICAL FITNESS, CONTINENCE STATUS, MOOD STATUS, VISION, HEARING, ORAL HEALTH

A total of 230 people attended the event. Dumplings were distributed to those present during the function. Event commenced at 5.30p.m. and ended at 10.30p.m.

A TCM HEALTH TALK by Medical Practioner from Public Free Clinic Society was held at Kebun Baru CC Conference Room yesterday, 17th April 2011 between 3.00p.m. and 6.00p.m. A reasonable turnout of residents who had gone home later with a handful of information on how to regulate emotions through the various TCM methods to lead a comfortable and flexible lifestyle. The topic in Mandarin was "Regulating emotions for clearing heat - to create a comfortable and flexible life". Medical Practioner Mr. Loh gone through with the audience on how to deal with stress which in turn would affect emotions thus causing internal damage to human organs such as heart, liver, kidney, colon, and bladder which would eventually resulting in illness. Ways of control temper and how to keep cool were presented as well as TCM ways of identifying and massaging the important acupoints in our body, recommended diets, simple exercises, etc. There were also hands on demonstration on how to perform the massage. Hence, for those who missed the talk, we would recommend that you attend the coming talks which would be held once a month until August 2011. Topics would include "Prevention and treatment of Rheumatism TCM way", "Distinction between physiques and TCM lifestyle", "Prevention and treatment of skin itching and ageing TCM way", "Sleeping disorders by TCM (sleep well, look and stay younger)". Look out for further details and participate in the coming talks to avoid missing out the knowledge gain in TCM.

Kebun Baru GROs led by CSC held its Intergeneration Sports Day on Sunday, 3rd April 2011 at Mayflower Mall beside Mayflower Food Centre / Market. Guest of Honour was Mr. Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. Participants dressed in different colours of green, yellow, blue, and red, comprising of three generations enjoyed themselves with games. There were also stage performance and a photography contest for families. Points were given to the photographs of families with the most members and generations, and how photogenic they are. Participants were given coupons where they could exchange for food at the Food Centre ($2.00 per pax). There was a very good turnout.

Lions Eyes Screening cum Symposium 2011

12th Wellness Sharing Session

The 12th Wellness Sharing Session organized by the PA Active Ageing Council was held last evening (15th March 2011) at NTUC Auditorium, One Marina Blvd. It has been a very interesting session with Tanjong Pagar CC and Marine Parade CC sharing their experiences in promoting the Wellness Programme. Besides, the sharing there were performances such as the Opera show by Queenstown CC, 'conductorise' exercise by Tanjong Pagar CC, Liu Tong Quan by Potong Pasir CC, Belt exercise by Sengkang West CC.
Guest of Honour was Senior Minister, Mr. Goh Chok Tong. Minister in Prime Minister Office, Mr. Lim Boon Heng who is also the Deputy Chairman of PA delivered the opening address. Others who were present include PA CED Mr. Yam Ah Mee, Mayors Teo Ho Pin and Zainal Abidin, MPs Heng Chee How, Seng Han Tong, Seah Kian Peng. Kebun Baru CC SCEC's Adult Ballet Dance Group was invited as guests and during his speech, Mr. Lim Boon Heng specially mentioned Kebun Baru's Adult Ballet Dance Group. They were given a standing ovation by those present. One of the members was presented with the Senior Citizen Volunteer Award by Senior Minister, Mr. Goh Chok Tong. Kebun Baru AAC Secretary, Ms Lily Lim; SCEC Chairman, Mr. Francis Leong and three members from SCEC, namely, Ms Foo Ngap Luan, Mdm. Chng Kim Lan, and Mdm. Tan Wee Peng were there to lend their support.

3G Line Dance Nite @ AMK 3G Centre

Kebun Baru CC SCEC held its 3G Line Dance Nite @ AMK 3G Centre last evening (Sunday, 13th March 2011) 6.00p.m. to 9.00p.m. A reasonable crowd of 120 people participated in the 3 hour long non-stop line dancing with a total of 45 dance items ranging from some old ones such as 'Khoo Kaat', 'Quando Quando', 'Cowboy Cha Cha', 'Tango With The Sheriff' to the new and not so new ones. There were also some requests from participants which DJ Vincent readily obliged. Many residents from Kebun Baru, particularly those from Palm View RC SCG joined in. As it was our first attempt at AMK 3G Centre it had been a good turnout with some dancers enquiring when would be the next jam session.

Kebun Baru CC SCEC held its annual TAIJI NIGHT last evening (12th March 2011) at Kebun Baru CC Hall. The Guest of Honour was Kebun Baru CCMC Vice Chairman Mr. Patrick Liew. About 230 persons attended the event with 100 performers. There were 30 items in the programme showcasing the various forms of taiji. Participants include interest groups from Bukit Batok CC, Woodlands CC, Kampong Kembanggan CC, Hougang CC, Cheng San CC, Bukit Batok CSC, Sembawang E Zone RC, Yuhua Martial Arts Training Centre, Thomson CC, Chong Pang Zone Nine RC, Sengkang CC, and Chua Chu Kang Zone 4 RC.

The dinner was in appreciation of the effort and hard work put in by the executive committee members, supporters, as well as leaders of the interest groups and their instructors in successfully organising events and activities for Senior Citizens in Kebun Baru for the past year. Chairmen of Senior Citizens Committee of Spring and Bestari RCs were invited. SCEC Vice Chairman, Mr. Ang Gueh Kok, PBM is also the Chairman of Palm View RC's Senior Citizens Committee.

Wellness Family Carnival 2011Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee would be organizing a 'Wellness Family Carnival' in conjunction with the CCC roving exhibition which would be held on Saturday, 5th March 2011 at Kebun Baru CC Hall. Time: 4.00p.m. to 7.00p.m. The programme would include games stalls; inflatable balloons for children, cultural competitions (art and craft, jigsaw), showcase of handicraft, exercise demonstration. HPB, NEA, and Police would be participating. There would be quizzes related to the exhibits and for every submission, a small token would be given. LUCKY DRAW as well. Refreshments and finger food would be provided. Ticket at $2.00 each. Target number of participants: 500 consisting of 300 senior citizens, age 50 and above; and 200 other age groups.

Health, Ear & Eye Screenings @ Sembawang Baptist Church

Jointly organized by Kebun Baru CC SCEC, Villas and Vista NCs, a Health Screening exercise together with Ear & Eye Screenings was held this morning at Sembawang Baptist Church, 140 Casuarina Road, of Upper Thomson Road. A total of 45 senior citizens (aged 50 and above) gone through the Health Screening with 50 for the Ear Screening and 55 for Eye Screening. As this is the first time Health Screening has been held at a private estate i.e. at Sembawang Baptist Church in our attempt to bring the venue nearer to residents the response has been rather disappointing.

The service provider for Health Screen is Mt. Alvernia Hospital, Eye Screen is conducted by Eagles Eye Centre, and Ear Screen is Alexandra Hospital. Dr. Lim Wee Kiat, MP for Sembawang GRC was on hand to do the Eye Screen. Hence, it was a mis-opportunity for those who did not make it to the screening on this occassion.

River Hongbao Tour

On Wednesday, 9th February 2011 as part of the River Hongbao Celebrations, there will be performances by Senior Citizens Groups as well songs and dances by Dance Troupe from Nanjing City and Guangdong Art Troupe.
Kebun Baru CC SCEC Adult Ballet Dance and Chinese Dance Groups shall be performing on that evening. The theme for the evning is 'Active Ageing Night'.
The Guest of Honour is Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Lim Boon Heng.

Senior Citizens Sports Day, jointly organized by Kebun Baru GROs, led by Kebun Baru CSC and supported by Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee was held on Sunday, 9th January 2011 at Kebun Baru CC Hall. Guest of Honour was Mr. Inderjit Singh who arrived at 7.30a.m. and flagged of the Walk-a-Jog at around 8.00a.m. The morning's programme started with warm-up exercises at 7.45a.m. After the Walk-a-Jog there were games and performances by the various groups. Programme ended at about 10.30a.m. followed by refreshments for all.

Kebun Baru CC SCEC visited Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village on Sunday, 26th December 2010 for celebrating Christmas with staff and residents of the Home. SCEC provided dinner, gifts, and a 2 hour-long performance for staff and residents, numbering 240 of them. Chairman thanked the organizing committee for the success, staff Cherlyn Wu for her effort in communicating with the staff of Banyan Home and all the necessary arrangements; SCEC members who were present to assist in the distribution of food and gifts; performers from Senior Citizens Groups from CC and RCs who provided the entertainment for the evening.

KEBUN BARU COMMUNITY CLUB SENIOR CITIZENS EXECUTIVE COMMITTEE 25TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION DINNER CUM VARIETY SHOW

Kebun Baru CC SCEC celebrated its 25th Anniversary with a grand Dinner cum Variety Show on Sunday, 28th November 2010 at Kebun Baru Community Club. The show started at 7.30p.m. and ended at almost 11.00p.m. There were a total of 55 tables. The Guest of Honour was Minister in Prime Minister's Office, Mr. Lim Boon Heng who incidentally, was the Member of Parliament for Kebun Baru Constituency when Kebun Baru CC SCEC was inaugarated 25 years ago. Among the list of VIPS was the Chief Executive Director of People's Association, Mr. Yam Ah Mee. The night's program was put up by performances of senior citizens groups from the CC and the RCs ranging from Indian dance, group and solo singing, tajiquan, yanji dance, catwalk by senior citizens modelling students, taichi rhythm ball, Chinese dance, Belly dance, Ballet dance, Malay dance, and folk songs. As it was an anniversary dinner, there was 'cake cutting' followed by a birthday song and toasting by SCEC members and VIPs to all present. The show ended with a Lucky Draw of 25 prizes.
The organizing committee would like to thank all supporters who attended the event and those who have given their support in one way or another.

An event led by C2E and jointly organized by all GROs of Kebun Baru, will be held on Saturday, 11th December 2010. Venue: Kebun Baru CC Multi-purpose Hall. Time: 2.30p.m. to 4.30p.m. Tickets @ $2.00 each available at Kebun Baru CC and all RCs/NCs. Guest of Honour - Mr. Inderjit Singh, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC. Highlights would include skits, games, kacang puteh, activities such as puzzles, poker games, first aid bandaging demonstrations, quizes, etc. Refreshments and sourveniors shall be distributed.

A visit to Banyan Home @ Pelangi Village, Buangkok Green on Sunday, 26th December 2010. Time: 5.30p.m. to 7.30p.m. by SCEC members and senior citizens. Bus would leave Kebun Baru CC at 4.30p.m. SCEC would provide meal and entertainment for residents of Banyan Home numbering 240. A sporting event led by Kebun Baru CSC and jointly organized by all GROs of Kebun Baru with support from Kebun Baru Active Ageing Committee. To be held on Sunday, 9th January 2011. Highlights - warm-up exercises, qigong, walk-a-jog around Mayflower Private Estate, stage performance on Healthy Lifestyle (Calisthenic exercises, Kebayarobics, Taichi in Rthym, Beam bag exercise); fun games for seniors. Senior Citizens Executive Committee

Kebun Baru Community Club Senior Citizens Executive Committee was formed in 1985. The objective of the Senior Citizens Executive Committee, in short, SCEC is to help senior citizens lead an active, healthy and meaningful life within the family and community.

SCEC shall achieve this objective by organizing social, cultural, educational, sports, and recreational activities for senior citizens; fostering goodwill and friendship among fellow senior citizens; providing opportunities for them to interact with others in the community, both young and old; developing a sense of mutual help and care among them; and promoting participation in national affairs.

HEALTHY LIFESTYLE ACTIVE AGEING

In general SCEC shall organize activities for residents whose age are 50 years and above. However, SCEC also involved in joint projects with other GROs within the division to cater for all ages e.g. National Day Obervation Ceremony, Mid Autumn Festival, Deepavali, Hari Raya, Christmas,and other major festivals in Singapore.

There is always a misconception that SCEC members must be above 50 years of age. On the contrary, persons who are 21 years and above, but below 50 years old would be accepted as members. However, under People's Association's guidelines, this group of members shall NOT exceed one-third of the total membership during the term of office.

The last 25 years SCEC has successfully organized events and activities for senior citizens in Kebun Baru division of Ang Mo Kio GRC. The support of these activities has always been overwhelming. For several years it has achieved 4-star performance award by the People's Association. This due to the strong foundation and solid programs put in place by past Chairmen, namely, the late Mr. See Chee Chong (1985 - 2004), Mr. Soh Cheng Chua (2004 - 2006), and Mr Jimmy Lim Tian Quee, PBM; and not forgetting the dedicated team of committee members who have been working tirelessly organizing the various events and activities. Some of them having served the committee for more than a decade now, two of them have in fact been with committee for a good twenty two (22) years. They are our current Vice Chairman, Mr. Ang Gueh Kok, PBM and member Mdm. Koh Kwee Eng.

Currently, SCEC has interest groups for several activities ranging from Karaoke; recreational folk dance; folk singing; Mandarin/Hokkien/Cantonese pop songs singing; Taijiquan; Adult ballet; Chinese dance; petanque; Grandparents Breakfast Group (name to be changed to Generation Connect Group @ St. Nicholas. SCEC would continue its endeavour to explore more interest groups in other areas. Courses under SCEC's purview conducted at the Community Club include:- adult ballet; Chinese dance for adult; conversational English; dressmaking; Hatha Yoga; Karaoke singing; international folk dance; recreational (fan) folk dance; Tajiquan; Taekwando; and the recently started Ukelele.

SCEC would continue its efforts to explore for new activities to meet the aspiration of senior citizens who are more educated and have a more diverse set of interests. SCEC would also continue its search for new members in order to inject new ideas and programs to cater for the needs of senior citizens of today and the future.

SCEC would intensify its relationship with its partners both within the Community Club as well as outside agencies to work more closely together in meeting its goals for the coming years.
